Stage 1 - Drop us an email
To start the process please drop us an email with your contact details including a telephone number to volunteer@hhr.org.uk
Once we have the details we will arrange a quick call back and then we can start the process at the Hospital.
Stage 2 - Hospital Voluntary Services
Voluntary Services at the Wye Valley Trust manage the onboarding of volunteers This process may take a number of weeks. but is designed to ensure that the relevant patient/hospital awareness process are completed.
The sooner you complete the paper work to the Trust the sooner that they can process your application, they include obtaining a number of references.
The Voluntary Services Team will send you a number of emails, to start your journey as a volunteer.
The cover a number of areas,
- e-training - Training that you need to complete ( this can take place at home)
- DBS - Disclosure Barring Service - This is a mandatory process that is used
During this process the Voluntary Service Team are at hand to support you, you can contact them at volunteering@wvt.nhs.uk or call them on 01432 355444.
Stage 3 - Hospital Radio Training
The Voluntary Services team at the Hospital will advise us that you have started the training we can start the process
Once this is complete, the Hospital Radio team will be in touch to start your training. At this stage a membership would need to be paid,
The current fee is £30 a year.
Stage 4 - Training Programme and Station Awareness
Congratulations you are now one of our Trainees a path that all of the volunteers at HHR had trod before.
At this stage we will Issue you with a HHR email address, ( as all of the charity communications is sent via your own email address ( normally of the form name.surname@hhr.org.uk
We will now allocate one of the volunteers of the station who are able to train you. We have currently three presenters who can support you, and the process is :
- You will be asked to shadow the presenter when they do their show
- They will guide you on a 121 basis on how we present and how to use the systems and the studios
- Once you feel content and they feel that your are able to, they will allow you to operate the desk with their guidance for what will be a gradually longer period of time during your training.
- This means you are supported all the way through.
- Once they are comfortable that you can pass your training they will let the Broadcast team know, so plans can be made when you are able to broadcast and when we have times in the week free.

Stage 5 - Welcome Aboard
Once you are comfortable with the knowledge you have and your trainer is content, you will be allocated a programme that is suitable for the time you wish to give to HHR.
