Chris Hughes
Chris joined HHR in 1991, popped into the studio to meet the then Programme Controller Colin Bush, within a matter of hours found himself under the broken desk in Studio 2... By the end of that Saturday the studio was fixed. that's where it all started!!
He is proud to be part of HHR, and as Engineer for many years has
build a couple of studios, an OB caravan and fixed countless
headphones!!
Although predominantly a behind the scenes guy, Chris had an
opportunity to work with Mark Baker in the late '1990's on the legendary Saturday night request programme, from these early days he
now can be found hosting the weekday breakfast show at HHR.
Chris has been for many years the external face of HHR to those in
Hereford. He followed in the footsteps of George Burton and Roger
Smith, as the charity's Chairman steering HHR through the uncharted
waters of one of the UK's first private finance initiative in the
Health Sector at Hereford's County Hospital. That journey is almost
complete, and Chris has recently steered HHR to obtain funding and the
necessary licenses to allow the Station to be heard outside of the
hospitals, so former patients or those waiting for treatment elsewhere
can listen at home.
Very recently Chris was very proud to help George Cooper and the
Hat Band who were raising money for St Michaels Hospice by hosting a
series of concerts at the Courtyard. These concerts were recorded, and
broadcast on HHR the following evening. The concerts at the Courtyard,
Hereford and the Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells have raised over £25k for the Hospice.
