Hereford Hospital Radio on BBC Radio 1

The Weekend starts here with Olle Grove – Except here is BBC Radio 1.

Former Friday night presenter Olle Grove represented Hereford Hospital Radio and broadcasted to the whole nation thanks to Greg  James and Feet up Friday on BBC Radio 1.

Olle Tells the HHR website, “I applied for Greg James’ Feet Up Friday show and thanks to Gary Pounder, who works on the show, (and also happens to attend the University of Westminster and doing the same course as me but 2 years above) myself and 3 others on my course were asked to come to the Radio 1 studios to be in the audience! After a lengthy wait and various meet and greets with the producers of the show, we were shown through to the Live Lounge, which happens to be a slightly unmagical control room, where we got to see Trevor Nelson on his 1Xtra show. Just after 1pm we were shown through to the studio where we met Greg James and shared some stories with him. After our introduction on air we stood and sat at the back of the studio and watched everything happen (for a radio geek like myself, it was absolute heaven!). I then got to talking with Greg off air about his background and how he got into radio, he had his own Hospital Radio show when he was teenager and that’s when I got onto the subject of Hereford Hospital Radio which he then mentioned on air! It was so nice to A) have some more air time and B) raise a little awareness worldwide of our radio station. At the end of the show, they collate the whole audiences shout outs for one person to read, now after our chat about my show on a Friday night, Greg spoke the most amazing words I’ve ever heard in my life, “Olle, you’re going to present on Radio 1, you sit in my chair, have my headphones and I’ll produce you.” I cannot describe how excited I was! I did the shout outs and to round the whole experience off, he let me take us out of the show by doing my normal opening link on HHR! We went for a tour of Radio 1 after the show which was extremely interesting and we got to meet the big boss, all of the production teams and all of newsbeat. It was a truly incredible day and one I wont be likely to forget in a very long time.”
