Coventry Building Society To Close Ross-On-Wye Agency
Published 23/08/2026 By William Turtle-Clark
Coventry Building Society is set to close its Ross-on-Wye agency on Gloucester Road at midday on 10 September 2026, leaving local customers without a nearby physical location.
The closure forms part of a wider move by the building society to shut down all of its agency branches nationwide.
Explaining the decision, Coventry Building Society cited a significant drop in footfall alongside a shift towards digital channels, with more customers managing their finances online, via mobile apps, or by telephone. Figures released by the mutual show that the Ross-on-Wye agency handles approximately 78 per cent fewer daily transactions than the average branch across its network.
The Gloucester Road office has offered Coventry Building Society services since 2010, following the mutual’s takeover of the Stroud & Swindon Building Society.
The society thanked local staff for their support, emphasizing that the decision to close had not been taken lightly. Following the shutdown, the nearest alternative physical branches for Ross residents will be in Lydney, around 16 miles away, as well as Gloucester and Stonehouse.
Coventry Building Society confirmed it will contact customers who have used the agency within the past year. The authority is also notifying local organizations and representatives, including Citizens Advice, Age UK, Herefordshire Council, and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman.
Customers will retain access to their accounts and money management services online, via the mobile app, and through telephone banking after the office closes.
